Jonathan Navarro

Jonathan Navarro is a recent transplant from New Haven, Connecticut who just moved to the Triangle region this past September. Although living most recently in the Northeast, Jonathan was born in St. Louis, Missouri and has also lived in Greenville, South Carolina. Coming from a long line of educators, Jonathan brings his enthusiasm for education and passion for the environment to the Triangle Air Awareness Program Coordinator position. In addition to both a science and education background, Jonathan also brings an excitement, creativity, and strong desire to impact families within his community through the spread of environmental education.

While attending Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, Jonathan honed his scientific skills and knowledge of environmental issues while majoring in Earth and Environmental Science. After attending Furman, Jonathan completed his Masters of Science in Environmental Education at Southern Connecticut State University in Connecticut. As Jonathan finished his graduate program, he discovered the hands-on, educational museum and workshop called the Eli Whitney Museum, and soon after he joined their team.

The Eli Whitney Museum is a unique, environmentally conscious, experimental children’s workshop in Connecticut. For over two years, Jonathan led and coordinated hundreds of educational programs with school districts, science museums, and members of the greater community. Jonathan recently left the Eli Whitney Museum with hopes to more directly impact and address air and water quality issues while at the same time living closer to family here in North Carolina.

Jonathan is an avid hiker and mountain climber. He was a scholar athlete and Division I tennis player at Furman University, and he continues to compete as often as possible. If not at the office or on a tennis court, you can most likely find Jonathan in one of three places: lounging outdoors under a tree, sipping an espresso at a local coffee shop, or maybe just reading about A Walk in the Woods.
